Readings for Th. Oct. 9

I never realized how many online social media options there are! Although many were suggested in Chris Bogan’s Blog, I only want to mention a few of my favorites.

I really enjoy blogging on this website, WordPress. I never thought I would like blogging, but this site makes it easy, accessible, and enjoyable. I like being able to design and personalize my own page. WordPress makes blogging unique and personal.

In class, we use Twitter for microblogging. At first, this was a little difficult for me to follow, but now I feel like I am really getting the hang of it. What I like most about Twitter is that it connects you to so many professionals. I feel like I am making connections I never would have thought of if it weren’t for Twitter and microblogging.

I had never heard of social bookmarking before PR class, but I investigated a little and found that I really like Delicious. I found that this site was easy for me to explore with features like most popular bookmarks and common tags. I was able to see examples to better understand what Delicious was all about.

I use Facebook for social networking because I am very familiar with it. I love that Facebook connects me with friends around the world. It is a great way to keep in touch with everyone in my life without a huge time demand.

Out of the three social news sites suggested on Bogan’s blog, I like Mixx the best. I like that it has popular photos on the top of the front page because I am a very visual person. I also like that stories are categorized and very organized according to content. Discovering this site is very exciting because it makes news more fun and interesting than the average news site.
